LES NEWMAN AWARD WINNERS 2024

Mrs Alback was one of the founding teachers in Brisbane. She has done everything Comdance has offered in that period of time. She has been a mentor as a teacher to hundreds of children and many have gone on to successful careers as dancers, teachers, and examiners. She has mentored many of our current examiners. In 2013 she was awarded Life Membership.

She began teaching over 70 years ago and her contribution to the Society has extended beyond teaching and examining to a massive contribution on our executive committee. Mrs Alback has also organized the Queensland Born to Perform competition for the past 25 years.

All in all, Mrs Alback is a legend of Comdance.

Raquel Muia has supported everything Comdance for over 30 years.

She has been the WA Convention Organiser for at least 20 years. If we need a venue, Raquel will find it. She is a studio owner; professional events producer; runs a full-time school and is a mother.

She is a director of talent for Telethon, the mammoth fundraising event in WA. In her role at Telethon, she has helped promote many of our dance schools through their performances on Telethon. A win for the Telethon cause and a win for our dance schools.

Raquel has previously facilitated in resourcing talent for our syllabi – specifically she introduced Jason Winters and Carmelo Pizzano and has been a guest teacher at Summer Schools overseas.

As the saying goes, ‘If you need a job done, ask a busy person’. There is no better example than Raquel.
