Les Newman 2022 Recipient Renie-Ann Martini

It is with great pleasure we announce that the winner of the Les Newman Award for 2022 is Renie-Ann Martini

Renie Ann epitomises the qualities that are recognised in this award.

She started dancing at 6 at May Downs Dance School. She worked hard and at 16 achieved a great CSTD achievement in winning the prestigious Sun Cup. She has entered both exams and competitions as a student and of course as a teacher has always encouraged students to complete their Teacher’s Diplomas. She holds both a Tap and Theatrical Diploma. Approximately 40 years ago she took over running the May Downs School. Dynamic is an understatement when it comes to her attitude to her students. She has an ability to develop the same work ethic and discipline in her students as she has and the respect she gets from them is obvious to all.

Renie Ann’s contribution to the Society goes back over 50 years. She has been on the workshop circuit delivering wonderful knowledge as far back as the mid 70’s. She has contributed to syllabus routines, and a multitude of convention numbers and in recent years when contacted 2 weeks before the Governor General asked to visit her, her immediate response was YES, of course. In her usual manner, she felt it was an honour.

Since the Society’s growth overseas Renie has been one of the best ‘marketing tools’ we have had. She has on several occasions been the adjudicator at our larger competitions both in Australia and overseas. The students there hold her in awe. She is always willing to promote the society.

Renie’s contribution to the dance industry was recognized when she was awarded an OAM in 2013 for services to the performing arts through dance education. She has been a massive contributor to dance in Australia and a legend within the Comdance family.

Congratulations Renie Ann.
